When I receive the assignment I think about it a lot. I keep the assignment in my brain for a while, thinking about it in a train, think about it when I walk around the town. Then slowly start sketching in my notebooks. (I don't have a beautiful sketchbook that I keep like some of the illustrators I admire. My note books are full of scribble, doodles, and writings...) Once it's all on the paper and agree with the art director picking one idea, I move to the final production. I usually work with Gouache paint and inks. For product design I use Gouache also then later pointing out which color exactly is with the pantone color book.
